Knight Rider 8-Bit

A faithful recreation of Stu Phillips’ iconic Knight Rider theme from 1982 on 2 Ricoh 2A03 soundchips as found in the Nintendo Entertainment System without using any DPCM samples. [CC BY-NC 4.0]

Knight Rider 8-Bit

This was realized with Furnace over the course of two sessions of about 5 to 6 hours each. Recreating synths with sawtooth oscillators with the NES's flavors of square/pulse waves was impossible, so I tried to stay true to the theme in spirit.

As mentioned, this tune uses two NES sound chips but it sounds recognizeable and sufficiently complete on just one; the other is just there for the "oomph!"-factor and to help out with polyphony on the chords. It’s certainly possible to get there with arpeggiorating the flying car out of it, but that’s maybe for another day…
